bridge constructed in remote area of Gorkha

A suspension bridge over Myanglungkhola (river) linking Gumda and Laprak VDCs in remote part of Gorkha district has been constructed.

Prior to this, locals of the adjoining VDCs were hard hit due to lack of a bridge in the area.

Local nonagenarian Birlal Gurung inaugurated the bridge this morning amid a programme, said local Anarda Gurung.

Chairman of the Bridge Construction Committee Dhan Bahadur Gurung presided over the programme.

The 79-meter-long bridge was constructed with the investment of Rs 2.9 million including Rs 1.2 million support from the District Development Committee, Gorkha, and mobilisation of voluntary labour and assistance from different other organisations.

Some 4,000 people of 800 households of Laprak and Gumda VDCs have been benefitted after the construction of the bridge.

Tamuwan State Committee member of UCPN-Maoist Cham Bahadur Tamu, local social workers and technicians, among others, were present on the occasion.
