Ghode Jatra, the festival of horses, is being celebrated in the valley today.
Nepali Army cavalry is all set to present horse races,parades, acrobatics and various stunts at the Tundikhel parade ground on the occasion.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Vice President Paramananda Jha, Prime Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai,
Speaker Subas Nembang, heads of constitutional bodies and ministers are scheduled to attend the function.
On the occasion, the President, who is the army’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief, will give away prizes to the best performers.
Legend reveals that this festival was held to celebrate the victory over a demon named Tundi who resided over the meadow, today known as Tundikhel.
Marking the day, the Government has also announced a public holiday in Kathmandu valley.
